Playing With Rubinius

Right, so I was trying to play with Rubinius on OSX, after some searching I found out I needed the following dependencies.

gem install rake sydparse RubyInline rspec
port install glib2-devel

After that I had to get the Rubinius source…

svn co http://code.fallingsnow.net/svn/rubinius/trunk rubinius && cd rubinius

Build it…

rake build:shotgun
rake build:kernel
rake build:compiler

And finally try it out…

puts VERSION

./shotgun/rubinius lib/kernel.rbc version.rb

I guess I’ll have to try again in a few weeks.

Update:

Apparently Rubinius doesn’t define VERSION yet, so I’ll just puts 'Hello World'.

Rails Hackfest 2007

There is a real artificial storm blowing in the Rails Trac site! Not with wind, but with patches and ticket closing action. I don’t have the real figures, but it looks like the number of closed tickets are in the hundreds. All this because CD Baby! and Working With Rails are organizing Hackfest 2007. Which basically means that Jeremy Kemper’s nights this month are filled with our patches.

Fatigue has set in and Jarkko Laine was the first to drop, in the middle of Ticket #7139 no less. Well, goodnight everyone, may the most productive 20 men win!

And so we marked Camping’s first birthday. People all over the world are celebrating. For instance, the Rail core team created the gold master of the Ruby on Rails 1.2 gem today to honor Rails. I got a beer from the refrigerator. Joy is had by all.
